Information about exchanging or cancelling parking permits and other Transportation Services products.

Peak Permit Exchanges

Follow these steps to exchange your current permit for a new base lot, Flex, park and ride, UW Carpool, or UW-Accessible permit.

Step 1: Apply for a new peak permit

Complete an application for the new annual base lot, Flex, UW-Accessible, park and ride, or UW Carpool permit.

Step 2: Wait for a new parking assignment

  • While waiting for a new permit, you may keep and continue to use your current permit or pass.
  • You may also choose to cancel your current product and make alternate commuting arrangements while waiting for a new permit.

Step 3: Complete the exchange

You will be notified by Transportation Services if you are offered a new permit.

  • If you kept your current permit while waiting for a new assignment, you will not be able to complete the exchange online. You must exchange products at a Transportation Services office.

An administrative fee will be charged for exchanging your product for a base lot, Flex, UW Carpool, or UW-Accessible permit if the products are valid within the same parking year. There is no exchange fee to exchange your current product for a park and ride permit.

  • If you already canceled your old product, you may purchase your new permit online following the instructions in your offer letter.

Off-Peak Permit and Pass Exchanges

Follow the steps below to exchange your current product for an off-peak permit or bus pass.

Step 1: Purchase the new off-peak product

No application is necessary for off-peak products.

Please note that if a permit option is not displayed in the purchasing portal, it is not available.

Step 2: Cancel the current product

Return a completed cancellation form and permit, pass, bike locker key, or other product to a Transportation Services office.

Bike Locker or Bike Cage Exchanges

Follow the steps below to exchange your current product for a bike locker or bike cage assignment.

Step 1: Join a waiting list for a bike locker or cage

Step 2: Wait for a bike locker/cage assignment

  • While waiting for a bike cage or bike locker assignment, you may keep and continue to use your current permit or pass.
  • You may also choose to cancel your current product and make alternate commuting arrangements while waiting for a bike locker or bike cage assignment.

Please note that bike cage and bike locker assignments are in high demand, and waiting lists can be quite long.

Step 3: Complete the exchange

If you kept your current permit or pass while waiting for your new assignment, return a completed cancellation form with your unwanted permit, pass, bike locker key, or other product to a Transportation Services office.

Permit Cancellations

You must cancel a permit, pass, or bicycle locker/cage assignment when you no longer want or need it.

You will be charged for each day the product is assigned to you. 

Refunds or payroll deduction cancellations will not be processed until the permit is returned to Transportation Services.

The cancellation form must be returned with your permit or product. Download the cancellation form.

Step 2: Return the product

Return a completed cancellation form with your unwanted permit, pass, bike locker key, or other product to a Transportation Services office.

Refunds

Payroll deductions are not eligible for refund. Payroll deductions will continue until unwanted permits, passes, or products are returned to a Transportation Services office.

Products eligible for prorated refund

  • Annual base lot, park and ride, UW Carpool, and annual UW-Accessible permits (if paid for in full)
  • Afternoon permits
  • Bicycle lockers/cages (prorated monthly)
  • Bus passes (if paid for in full)
  • Department limited permits
  • Department reserved stalls
  • Moped permits
  • Motorcycle permits
  • Night permits
  • Service permits
  • Vendor permits

Products eligible for refund

  • Daily visitor parking permits are subject to a 50% return fee if the permits are returned at least two full business days prior to the scheduled date of use.
  • Flex permit account balances may be issued refunds for amounts greater than $5 ($6.25 in parking value)
  • Citations

Products and payments not eligible for refund

  • Payroll deductions that have already been taken. (Payroll deductions stop when Transportation Services receives a cancelled product.)
  • Monthly permits
  • Value deducted from Flex Gated permits
  • Funds paid to ParkMobile for Flex Surface parking sessions
  • Lot 76 Quick Passes
  • Additional value added to Lot 76 Quick Passes
  • Daily visitor parking permits returned less than 2 days prior to use date
