Peak Permit Exchanges

Follow these steps to exchange your current permit or pass for a new peak permit.

Examples of peak permit exchange scenarios:

  • You accepted a new position across campus and want a new Flex or base lot assignment that is closer to your new workplace.
  • You are biking and riding the bus more and driving to campus less, so you want to exchange your base lot permit for a Flex permit.
  • You now qualify for a UW-Accessible permit and want to exchange your Flex or base lot permit.
  • You currently have an afternoon or night permit, but recently accepted a first-shift position and now want a base lot permit.

Step 1: Apply for a new peak permit

Complete an application for the new annual base lot, Flex, UW-Accessible, park and ride, or UW Carpool permit.

Step 2: Wait for a new parking assignment

  • While waiting for a new permit, you may keep and continue to use your current permit or pass.
  • You may also choose to cancel your current product and make alternate commuting arrangements while waiting for a new permit.

Step 3: Complete the exchange

You will be notified by Transportation Services if you are offered a new permit.

  • If you kept your current permit while waiting for a new assignment, you will not be able to complete the exchange online. You must exchange products at a Transportation Services office.

An administrative fee will be charged for exchanging annual base lot and Flex permits that are valid within the same parking year.

  • If you already canceled your old product, you may purchase your new permit online following the instructions in your offer letter.

Off-Peak Permit and Pass Exchanges

Follow the steps below to exchange your current product for an off-peak permit or bus pass.

Examples of peak/off-peak permit exchange scenarios:

  • You moved to a location where you can exclusively ride the bus to campus and want to trade in your base lot permit for a bus pass.
  • You accepted a second-shift position and want to exchange a night permit for an afternoon permit.
  • You accepted a third-shift position and want to exchange a base lot permit for a night permit.
