Transportation Services Business Policies

UW Transportation Services operates within UW-Madison’s administrative policies. UW Transportation Services policies are publicly available for your convenience. Additional relevant University policies are listed below departmental policies.

UW-Madison Smoke-Free Policy

The current UW-Madison Smoke-Free Policy went into effect in 2016 and includes electronic smoking devices, buildings, parking ramps, and vehicles.

Campus Large Truck Policy

Transportation Services, Space Management, Physical Plant, Materials Distribution Services (MDS), Wisconsin Union and University Housing drafted a pilot policy to reduce large truck traffic within campus boundaries.

Damage to vehicles on campus

The University assumes no responsibility or liability for loss from theft, or damage to vehicles operated or parked on campus. Vehicles include any mode of transportation approved to park on campus including but not limited to cars, trucks, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, etc.

In accordance with State Statues 895.46 & 893.82, damages to personal vehicles while parked in a University lot or ramp are not covered by the University’s insurance unless the damage is a direct result of negligence. Damages that are not covered include equipment malfunctions, wind, vandalism, etc.

If your vehicle is damaged (especially as a result of vandalism), contact UW Police at (608) 264-COPS to file a report and then contact your insurance carrier.

If you have confirmation that your vehicle was damaged by a University owned vehicle, contact UW Risk Management.
