Park & Ride

By choosing a park & ride for your campus commute, you can save money on parking and fuel, reduce vehicle wear-and-tear, and avoid driving in campus traffic.

Madison Metro Transit and the Department of Transportation also operate park & ride lots in and around Madison.

UW–Madison park & ride program

How it works

We operate three off-campus lots with dedicated shuttle service to the main UW campus and University Hospitals. A permit is required to use the program.

Get a permit

You can apply for standard weekday access, or a Flex permit (pay-as-you-go).

Park and ride locations

There are three park and ride lot locations:

South of campus

  • Lot 202: 1602 S. Park Street (corner of Park and Wingra)

West of campus

  • Lot 204: 3500 University Avenue

Northeast of campus

  • Lot 206: 2230 Pennsylvania Avenue

The park & ride program is available to:

  • UW-Madison employees
  • University affiliated employees
  • UW Health employees
  • Students

Flex parking at UW park & rides: ParkMobile

If you choose the Flex option for your park & ride permit, you must start a session in the ParkMobile app every time you park in your assigned lot. ParkMobile is available in Google Play and Apple App Store.

After hours parking on the main campus

Your park & ride permit is valid for parking in most surface lots on the main campus during on weekdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7 a.m., and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Refer to lot signs for enforcement details. Parking may not be available if a lot is closed due to events or construction.

Metro Transit park & rides

Park for free and ride Metro Transit to your destination. Complimentary bicycle parking is also available. Check the Madison Metro website for complete and up-to-date park & ride lot details, route information, and service schedules.

  • Dutch Mill
    Hwy. 12 & 18/Hwy. 51
    227 parking spaces
    Served by Route L
    West lot: 7-day parking limit for all stalls not marked as 30-minute
    East lot: Daily parking in the northern rows closest to Metro bus stop. 7-day parking in remaining rows.
  • Sun Prairie
    Reiner Rd. and O’Keeffe Ave. South of Reiner Rd. Hwy 151 exit.
    73 parking spaces
    Served by Routes A, S, and W
  • American Center
    East Park Blvd.
    141 parking spaces
    Route A stops one block to the west of this location on American Pkwy.
    Vehicles may remain parked at this lot for 48 hours
  • Verona
    Intersection of US 18/151/Old PB (2565 Old PB Co. Road)
    Served by Routes 55 and 75
    Cars may remain parked at this lot for 48 hours

Employee and student bus passes

UW-Madison and employees of UW-affiliated agencies (like UW Health) can order a discounted employee bus pass to travel between the park & ride lot and campus / UW Hospital. Learn more about employee bus passes.

Department of Transportation park & rides

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) manages the following locations, which provide free parking. Metro Transit buses do not serve these lots, but they make good carpool meeting spots or bike hubs. For more details visit the DOT’s Park and Ride page.
