Restrictions

Free parking does not include restricted areas such as driveways and aisles, reserved stalls, disabled stalls, loading zones, construction areas or lots being used for special events.

Vehicles may not park in a parking facility for more than 72 hours (three days) without prior authorization from UW Transportation Services. Stored vehicles are subject to citation or tow at the owner’s expense.

Permit holders who are traveling for UW business and are interested in leaving their vehicle on campus for a short period of time must fill out the short-term vehicle storage request form.

Parking Lots/Facilities

Types of Lots

All UW campus parking areas are signed and will be enforced as signed at the entrance.

Please note: Parking availability may be restricted without notice due to special events, construction, etc. Reference the Events Calendar to see if a lot will be affected by special event restrictions. Lots affected by closures will have signs posted at the entrances/exits.

Please refer to the hours of control for each facility, which can be found in the grid below. Select “Garages/Ramps” from the drop-down sort option to display all gated lot information. If you are using a sorting option, be sure to deselect the choice when you no longer wish to filter, or wish to sort by a different option.

You must display a lot specific permit, pull a ticket and pay visitor parking rates or, where available, pay at a timed parking stall (motorcycles). See parking rates on the rates and policies page. Credit cards and cash payments are accepted at all locations, although exit equipment only accept credit cards; see the Parking Structure Pay on Foot Machine Locations Map – PDF for more info.

There are three kinds of surface lots:

1. Surface lots controlled from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You must display a lot-specific permit or pay at a timed parking stall. Parking is free in these lots after 4:30 p.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday: no parking permit is required.

Lots 4, 19, 26, 34, 35, 37, 39, 40, 41, 45, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 64, 82, 86, and 94

2. Surface lots controlled at all times

You must display a valid UW permit for the lot from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. or pay at a timed parking stall.

From 4:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday, you can pay at a timed parking stall or display any valid UW annual base lot, Flex, or park and ride permit. Flex users must be in paid status with their primary lot code.

Afternoon and night surface lot permits are valid in most of these lots. See the afternoon permit policy and night permit policy on the rates and policies page for specifics.

Night garage-specific permits are not valid in these lots.

Temporary daily permits are not valid in these lots after hours.

Lots 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 18, 21, 22, 28, 30, 33, 44, 48, 51, 78, 81, 85, 87, 88, 91, and 92

3. Surface lots with a specific permit required at all times

You must display a lot specific permit at all times, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

No visitor parking is available. Select lots may have a limited number of timed parking stalls for 25 minute visitors/unloading; such lots are noted with a “*”.

Lots 50, 53, 65, 69*, 72, 74, 101, 102, 105*, 106*, 107, 109*, 110*, 112, 114*, 115*, 116, 120*, 123, 124, 125, 133, 134, 136*, 137, and 138

You must display a lot specific permit during hours of control. No visitor parking available.

You must display a valid, lot specific permit during hours of control; in select “all access” lots on the campus periphery, any valid UW moped permit is allowed. UW Housing residence hall moped lots are enforced 7 a.m. – 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. All other moped lots are enforced 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Lot Locations and Hours of Control

You can also use the campus maps page or interactive campus map to find these lots. The visitor parking availability page has a live count of parking available in campus gated lots. The lot stall type information page lists which lots have certain stalls (e.g., ADA, timed parking).

Use the lot maintenance page to report malfunctioning pay stations, signage problems, lights issues, and broken doors.

To search for a specific lot type and/or a certain area of campus, you can use the drop-down selection tools. Be sure to deselect an option if you don’t want it to filter the results. You can also try using the search bar if you remember a name, number, or address for the lot.

There are two entrances to the UW-Madison Arboretum: the west entrance off Seminole Highway by the Beltline (US-12) and the east by S. Mills St/N. Wingra Drive. See the Arboretum website for full details.
