Moped parking during winter break – 12/22/17 – 1/20/18

Reminder: Moped storage over winter break (Dec. 22, 2017 – Jan. 20, 2018) is limited to the dedicated Residence Hall lots on campus. Only residents with Lot 604, 605, 606, 610, 615, 660, 664, and 665 permits may leave their mopeds in their respective, appropriate lot over winter break.

Mopeds identified as being stored longer than 72 hours in any other campus moped lot or parking ramp/garage will be subject to tow at your expense, with daily storage fees of $35 a day at the tow company. If you plan to take your moped home for the winter, now may be the best time to do so.

If you park off campus, remember the City of Madison moped parking ordinance change is effective January 1, 2018. Park your moped off the city terraces if you’ll be gone over the winter holidays—starting January 1, 2018, mopeds will be prohibited from parking on terraces (area between the sidewalk and street), sidewalks, and at/near bike racks in the City of Madison. Once the ordinance goes into effect, mopeds should park in designated on-street stalls or in off-street parking lots and garages, in accordance with all time limits and parking restrictions. Property owners may establish terrace parking areas, which will be officially signed and designated for moped use. Currently, there are no established terrace public parking areas. For additional information on the ordinance and City of Madison moped permits, please visit the City’s Parking Utility site.  City’s moped informational brochure

Campus rules:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison requires a moped parking permit and has designated moped parking areas throughout campus. On campus, you can only park in these spaces, and must have a valid permit during hours of enforcement. Moped parking is only for permit holders from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in all non-residential lots. Residence hall lots (only available to those living in nearby residence halls) are permit required from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Mopeds are treated as vehicles on the UW-Madison campus and cannot park at or near bicycle areas or—for safety reasons—in gated parking garages/ramps. Mopeds cannot be operated on sidewalks, disabled access aisles, bike paths or other restricted areas. Moped operators must obey all traffic signs and signals and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Mopeds cannot be locked to or parked at utility poles, trees, bollards, railings, signposts, meter posts or fences. Improperly parked or abandoned mopeds are subject to citation, tow or impoundment.
