Near Sellery: Intersection Closures at North Park and Dayton
A utility improvement project will affect travel at the North Park Street and Dayton Street intersection, a major campus access point, through 2024.
- Pedestrians: Sidewalks are closed along North Park and Dayton. A protected walkway is available around the construction site on the northwest corner of the Park-Dayton intersection. Use caution and follow pedestrian detour signs.
- Cyclists may use the full traffic lanes around the work area.
- Vehicle traffic: Dayton is closed to westbound traffic from East Campus Mall to Brooks Street. Vehicles cannot make left turns onto North Park from Dayton and instead may detour via Mills Street or Lake Street.
CDIS Construction near Discovery Institute and Psychology Building
The Computer, Data & Information Sciences building construction site will affect travel around the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and the Psychology Building through December 2024.
- Pedestrians: Protected temporary paths surround the work site on University Avenue and Johnson Street. There is an accessible sidewalk along the west side of Orchard Street.
- Cyclists traveling east on University may ride along the protected pathway. Please use caution, as the path is for both bikes and pedestrians to use.
- Vehicle traffic: Orchard is fully closed. The southern lane of University is closed from Park to Orchard, and the northern lane of Johnson is closed from Orchard to Charter. Lane closures may cause delays and congestion during peak traffic hours.
Construction of an addition to the Kohl Center will affect travel around the Nick, Ogg Residence Hall, and LaBahn Arena through 2024.
- Pedestrians and cyclists: a section of East Campus Mall, just north of the tunnel, is narrowed to a 10-foot shared path. Please watch for other pedestrians, cyclists, and work vehicles when traveling through this area.
- Parking Lots 78 and 88 are closed.
Another utility project near Babcock Hall and Stock Pavilion will affect travel on Linden Drive through mid-November.
- Pedestrians: There are no sidewalk closures but use caution when navigating around the work site in front of the Stock Pavilion and Babcock Hall.
- Cyclists traveling westbound should detour via Observatory Drive.
- Metro Transit routes 28, 38, and 65 skip stops on Linden Drive between Charter and Babcock and instead continue along University Avenue before turning right on Babcock Drive.
- Vehicle traffic: The eastbound traffic lane is closed from Babcock Drive to Elm Drive, and the westbound lane has been temporarily converted into an eastbound lane. Westbound traffic can detour on Observatory Drive.
University Avenue Construction
The City of Madison is reconstructing areas of University Avenue at University Bay Drive, a major access point at the west end of campus. The work requires lane closures which cause traffic delays, especially during peak travel times. For current project updates, go to the City of Madison website.
For more information on ongoing closures and detours, please see the campus lot and street impacts/closures map or visit the campus construction impacts webpage.
