As Badgers return to campus this fall, construction in east and central areas of the UW–Madison campus will cause sidewalk, bike lane, and road closures through mid-September. Expect travel delays during peak hours, follow posted detours, and use caution near work zones.
Note: Construction schedules are fluid and can change quickly due to weather and other factors.
University Avenue in front of Vilas Hall (Lake Street to Park Street)
-
Vehicles: Reduced lanes; through-traffic remains open. (Area K on map.)
- Bikes & pedestrians: The sidewalk in front of Vilas Hall and the eastbound bike lane are closed. A shared path is open in the closed traffic lane. (Area K on map.)
Johnson Street area (Brooks Street to Park Street)

- Vehicles: Reduced lanes on Johnson Street; through-traffic remains open. (Areas H and J on map.)
- Brooks Street closure: Fully closed between Johnson Street and the Grainger Hall parking garage entrance. Access the Grainger garage via University Avenue. (Area G on map.)
Engineering Drive (Phillip A. Levy Engineering Center)

- Pedestrians: Protected detours are in effect. Follow designated routes and do not take shortcuts through the street. (Areas D and E on map.)
- Parking ramp access: The service drive off University Ave is closed, blocking the north entrance to the Engineering Drive ramp. Use the eastern entrance instead.
