Madison Marathon to restrict campus roads on November 10

The Madison Marathon is Sunday, Nov. 10 and the full marathon route travels through part of downtown Madison and a section of the UW-Madison campus. Campus traffic delays are anticipated from approximately 7:30 -10 a.m. UWPD will assist with traffic routing in the areas affected by the course. No campus roads are closed entirely.

Observatory Drive from Charter Street to Walnut Street will be used for the full marathon route, as will Breese Terrace and parts of University Avenue. The City of Madison has posted a map of the routes and times of impact.

Some Lot 26 stalls along Observatory Drive will be blocked off on Saturday evening to ensure the road is open enough for the race on Sunday. Permit holders can use the Lot 26 sections near the Soils Building/King Hall and the Observatory Hill Office Building, if needed. Please note travel in and out of these areas may be difficult on Sunday morning.

Madison Metro Transit has several special event bus route detours in place throughout the day:

  • Route 80 will not serve the Memorial Union, Dayton Street, Lake Street, Observatory Drive, or Walnut Street stops until 10 a.m. Route 80 marathon detour details
  • Routes 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 13 will be on detour until 3:10 p.m. Route 22 is on detour until 1 p.m. Other route detour details

A full list of affected routes with detour maps can be found on the Metro Transit detour page.

Full road access will reopen on a rolling basis as the final runners clear an area.
