The City of Madison is preparing for a significant project along N. Lake Street, aiming to replace aging sanitary sewer mains and enhance the storm sewer system. Construction will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 24 and is expected to last until August 30. The project contains two phases of traffic implications, affecting the crossing of University Avenue and northbound travel on N. Lake Street.
Phase 1 traffic impacts (June 24 – July 29):
- Restricted lanes along University Avenue
- N. Lake Street northbound traffic heavily restricted
- Potential closure of Northbound traffic on N. Lake Street
- Reduced traffic flow and lane closures
- Potential delays or detours
Upon completion of the University Avenue intersection, the project will transition to phase two, focusing on the northern stretch of N. Lake Street. Normal traffic flow along University Avenue is anticipated to restore by the end of phase 1.
Phase 2 traffic impacts (July 29 – August 30):
- Normal traffic flow on University Avenue
- N. Lake Street southbound traffic maintained
- N. Lake Street northbound traffic restricted
