Parking restrictions waived for winter holidays; changes to bus service

Due to the upcoming Christmas, New Year’s, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day holidays, there will be reduced Metro Transit bus service, including campus bus routes. To accommodate these changes, Transportation Services will waive some on-campus parking restrictions on certain days.

Please remember that restricted parking areas are always enforced, including reserved (signed) stalls, access aisles, fire lanes, and no parking zones.

December 23 and 30

Gated parking facilities (garages and ramps) will be under normal weekday operation with permit or payment required. Permit holders assigned to gated facilities will be able to enter and exit as usual. Flex Gated permit holders will be charged for parking in their assigned lots. Visitors must pull a ticket and pay upon exit.

Surface lots: UW parking permits will not be required to park in most surface lots. Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in permit (unsigned) parking stalls. If no stalls are open, please proceed to another lot.

Exceptions to waived surface lot rules on December 23 and 30:

  • Lots 11, 74 and 82 will require lot-specific permits.
  • UW Disabled stalls will require either a UW Accessible permit or State DOT Disabled permit/plate.

December 24, 25, and 31; January 1, 2025

UW parking permits will not be required on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, with one event-related exception:

  • Lots 87, 91 and 94 near the Kohl Center will be closed midday on New Year’s Eve due to a Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball game vs. Minnesota. These lots will reopen in the evening after the event ends.

Park and Ride Lot 202 will be closed December 24 through January 1. Lot 202 permit holders will receive an email about on-campus parking options during this period.

Monday, January 20

UW parking permits will not be required on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
