Ironman 2022 to cause campus area traffic detours

The Wisconsin Ironman event is Sunday, Sept. 11 and consists of routes traveling through the Madison area and UW–Madison campus. The marathon course passes through much of campus and will cause detours and delays. Runners are anticipated on the course from 11 a.m. to midnight. UWPD is assisting with traffic rerouting in the areas affected by the course.

Various parking lots along the routes will be impacted, with traffic in and out of the facilities temporarily restricted based on the number of runners. UWPD will direct traffic in and out of lots when possible. Expect delays and consider alternate travel routes and parking plans if you need to park in an affected area on Sunday.

A list of road impacts and maps of all the Ironman event routes are available on the Ironman website.

Several Metro Transit detours will be in effect on Sunday, including campus routes. Affected routes include 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 16, 80, 81 & 82. For bus detour information, see the Metro Transit website.

Lot 26 will be closed on Sunday. Stalls along Observatory Drive will also be closed Saturday to ensure the road is open enough for the race on Sunday; permit holders can use the off-street Lot 26 section near the Observatory Hill building if needed.

Roads will reopen on a rolling basis as the final runners clear an area.
