New to parking at UW? Resources to help you apply

Before applying, it’s important to know that parking on the UW-Madison campus is always in short supply and high demand. Applying for a permit is not a guarantee you will receive one, and waiting lists can be very long.

We encourage employees to consider active and alternate transportation modes, such as riding Madison Metro Transit, bicycling, using a park and ride, and carpooling. If you’re not sure where to begin, we provide free one-on-one commute planning consultations.

If on-campus parking is the best option for you, please review this guide to applying for parking.

Student parking permits

For graduate students with an employment appointment:

Graduate students with a UW or UW-affiliated employment appointment, such as a fellowship or a teaching, research, or project assistantship, are considered UW employees by Transportation Services and are eligible to apply in the Permit Application System (PAS). Please follow the dates and deadlines when applying for a 2025-26 permit.

For undergraduate students; and graduate students with a “student help” or no employment appointment:

These student groups must complete a student parking pre-approval application to confirm eligibility for the student parking program.

If your eligibility to apply for parking is confirmed, follow the dates and deadlines to apply for a 2025-26 permit.
