Two utility projects will begin Monday, May 22 with work expected to last into August. Detours will be necessary for northbound travel on N. Charter Street (between University Avenue and Linden Drive) and westbound travel on Linden (between Babcock Drive and Elm Drive).
The eastbound lane of Observatory Drive will close between Charter Street and Bascom Hall to accommodate utility work. Vehicles traveling eastbound will detour to Charter Street. The westbound lane will remain open until May 4, when a one-day closure is planned for both lanes. The area is expected to fully reopen May 5.
Regent Street between East Campus Mall and Park Street will be closed to accommodate the placement of a construction crane. Traffic will detour to West Washington Avenue and South Park Street. Lot 29 and Regent Street’s southern sidewalk will remain open.
The Shamrock Shuffle 5K/10K events will go through parts of campus on Saturday, March 11. And beginning March 11, Walnut Street will be closed south of Linden Drive due to railroad bridge repair work. Traffic will detour to Highland Avenue through March 19.
Update, October 31: Due to construction issues, a stretch of eastbound Observatory Drive near Ingraham Hall and the Sewell Social Science Building will remain closed until November 17. Part of Linden Drive between Agriculture Hall and the Microbial Sciences Building is also closed in both directions for several weeks.
Observatory Drive will temporarily close in both directions near the Veterinary Medicine construction site. This closure will significantly limit options for thru vehicle traffic between the east and west sides of campus. It will also impact travel for in- and outbound traffic and cause Metro Transit detours.
Two new construction projects — North Park Street at Observatory Drive and Walnut Street at Observatory Drive — will impact campus travel over the next several weeks.
Multiple construction projects will cause additional lane closures and detours impacting pedestrians, bicycles, buses, and vehicles traveling to, from, and on the UW-Madison campus throughout the summer months.
Upcoming construction projects will cause lane closures on Charter Street, Walnut Street, and University Avenue/University Bay Drive. The closures impact vehicles, bicycles, buses, and pedestrians traveling to and from campus.
Construction work on Sellery Hall and a steam utility project south of Johnson Street will impact traffic lanes and heavily utilized pedestrian-bicyclist routes—including East Campus Mall—during the 2021-22 fall semester.
